Public education advocates are calling Texas senators out over a key component of the Texas Senate's public school funding counterproposal that significantly decreases the amount per student that districts across the state will receive. " Classroom teachers appreciate that both House and Senate members are contemplating providing funding for significant pay raises. In particular, it has been easy for them to praise the Senate concept of the $5,000 / $10,000 raise," Monty Exter, director of governmental relations for the Association of Texas Professional Educators, told Chron. " However, as they learn more about the two chambers' proposals, they have increasingly voiced concern about who would and wouldn't see a raise and how the proposals would more broadly impact the districts they work in."
