Gov. Greg Abbott pulled out all the stops to get school choice across the finish line, vowing to fund Texas public schools in tandem with creating a program that would divert taxpayer dollars to private and parochial schooling, a pledge critics say he still hasn't made good on. Tricia Cave, Lobbyist with the Association of Texas Professional Educators, said a major issue baked into the public education funding hold-up is the constant attacks on teachers. "There's, overall, a bigger thing happening for teachers, which is whatever the intention, and I'm not pretending to know the intention of the Texas Legislature," Cave said. "It's hard to ignore that it feels like we're being attacked."
