As a number of Texas school boards move to approve budgets for the upcoming school year, many are having to make sacrifices. The extent, however, varies widely, even between neighboring districts. This week, Manor ISD's board of trustees voted to approve a balanced budget for the second year in a row. The district found savings by increasing some class sizes, making cuts to transportation, and deferring some HVAC upgrades. Through those cuts, however, the district says it was able to invest an additional $1.1 million in classroom instruction for the upcoming school year. It also added over $250,000 for counseling and social services.
