The leader of one of Houston's fastest-growing school districts was named national superintendent of the year in February, becoming the second Texas school leader to win the title. Lamar CISD's superintendent, Roosevelt Nivens, was recognized by the School Superintendents Association. His district, which includes Richmond, Rosenberg and Fulshear, has 49 campuses and more than 46,000 students - and is projected to jump to nearly 70,000 by the 2034-2035 school year.
