Hello everyone,
As we celebrate the Month of the Military Child (April), it's essential to recognize the incredible work being done across Texas to support military-connected students. One powerful example comes from Weslaco ISD, which has earned the Purple Star Campus Designation from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
The Purple Star Campus Designation honors schools that go above and beyond in providing resources, programs, and support specifically designed for military-connected students. These students often face frequent relocations, deployments, and the challenge of adapting to new schools with different academic standards. Earning this designation signals a school's dedication to ensuring that military-connected students have the support they need to succeed.
Dr. Cynthia Cid, Director of Student Support Services at Weslaco ISD, puts it best: "We understand that military families face unique challenges, and it's our responsibility to ensure these students feel supported and valued." Through partnerships with military recruiters, veterans' groups, and family readiness programs, Weslaco ISD has developed a robust support system for its students that ensures they thrive despite the challenges they face.

Food for thought: How can we as educators and communities better support military-connected students, both academically and emotionally, throughout the year, not just during the Month of the Military Child?
